Oman participates in meeting to defend international law

Muscat:The Sultanate of Oman participated in the high-level meeting on defending international law, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, at the joint invitation of the Republic of South Africa and Malaysia.The Sultanate of Oman was represented at the meeting by His Excellency Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Qatbi, Director General of the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.In Oman's statement, His Excellency the Ambassador, Director General of the Department of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressed the importance of respecting and applying international law fairly and consistently, without selectivity or double standards, and of strengthening the role and independence of international institutions. He noted that the Palestinian issue represents one of the most prominent tests of the credibility of the international system, reaffirming Oman's steadfast position calling for an end to the Israeli occupation and the achievement of a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.The Sultanate of Oman also underscored the importance of promoting dialogue, mediation, diplomacy, and recourse to the law in addressing conflicts, affirming that sustainable peace requires justice and that defending international law requires its principles to be applied to all without exception.
