Oman and Rwanda: Expanding horizons for a promising partnership

Muscat: Oman and Rwanda are strengthening their partnership, building on diplomatic relations that date back to 1982. The growing cooperation reflects the shared vision of both nations to create new opportunities in trade, investment, technology, logistics and tourism.The partnership brings together Oman Vision 2040 and Rwanda Vision 2050, with both countries focusing on knowledge-based economies, innovation and sustainable development. Their cooperation has gained momentum through high-level visits, business exchanges and agreements covering key sectors. A major milestone was the signing of four cooperation agreements in January 2026. The agreements cover logistics services, dry ports, supply chains, data centres, cloud computing, artificial intelligence projects and airport management, while also enhancing air connectivity between the two countries.Trade relations have also expanded steadily. More than 80 leading Omani companies participated in the Omani Products Exhibition (OPEX) in Kigali, showcasing products from sectors including food, plastics and construction materials. The exhibition helped open new markets for Omani products and strengthen business ties with Rwanda and the wider East African region.The exhibition also resulted in commercial agreements, including the export of Omani industrial products and the registration, marketing and distribution of Omani pharmaceutical products in Rwanda.Connectivity between the two nations has received a significant boost through direct flights between Muscat and Kigali, facilitating travel, tourism, trade and investment while linking Oman more closely with East Africa.With strong diplomatic ties, expanding business cooperation and shared economic ambitions, Oman and Rwanda are creating a model of Middle East–Africa collaboration that promises wider opportunities for both countries in the years ahead.
