It genuinely feels like fans/the internet/society at large have been speculating about the next James Bond for years, but we’re officially somewhat closer to finding out who’s playing him in the next installment of the iconic franchise.Producer Amy Pascal revealed that the next James Bond will be announced soon-ish, and while there’s no set date, it looks like the reveal is going down sometime in the next five months.“I would say the end of the year is a good bet,” Pascal told Deadline. “We are being really, really methodical. But former casting director Debbie McWilliams—who cast the last three Bonds—told The Independent re: the rumored frontrunners, “It is absolutely essential that he retains a total enigma. I don’t want to see any of them as Bond because we now know so much about them. We want to know as little about them personally as possible, because that what spies are.”She added, “We don’t need to know where he goes shopping or who his parents are, or where he lives. We never want to see him at home. And a vital element of the whole thing is his job description. He’s licensed to kill, and we have to believe that he can do that. If you don’t, then you’ve lost the audience.”In other words, the franchise could cast a complete unknown—or someone very early in their career. Guess we’ll find out soon.
