Ohio State climbs to No. 6 overall in Rivals Team Recruiting Rankings

COLUMBUS – Ohio State landed one of its last remaining targets in the 2027 class on Saturday. Four-star Birmingham (Ala.) Ramsay defensive lineman Karlos May committed to the Buckeyes over Auburn and Georgia. Rivals currently has May ranked as the No. 78 overall prospect and No. 7 defensive lineman in the 2027 RIvals300. He is a bit lower in the Rivals Industry Rankings at No. 123 overall. According to the Rivals Industry Rankings, May is the No. 11 defensive lineman in 2027 class and No. 5 prospect in Alabama. May joins a star-studded defensive line class for the Buckeyes this cycle. Defensive line coach Larry Johnson landed five-star EDGE David Jacobs from Roswell (Ga.) Blessed Trinity High School in December. He then landed four-star Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas EDGE Wyatt Smith and five-star Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou in back-to-back months this offseason. Those four are four of Ohio State’s eight highest-ranked commitments in the 2027 class. With the addition of May, the Buckeyes moved up one spot to No. 6 overall in Rivals Team Recruiting Rankings. The other headliners for the Buckeyes this cycle are five-star wide receiver Jamier Brown from nearby Sunbury (Ohio) Big Walnut. Plus four-star offensive linemen Caden Moss from Jackson (Miss.) Jackson Academy and Kellen Wymer from Liberty Center (Ohio) High School. All three are top-100 prospects. Ohio State’s only other top-200 commitment this cycle is four-star Kansas City (Kans.) Blue Springs South linebacker Prince Goldsby. He is just outside the top-100 of the Rivals Industry Rankings at No. 101 overall. Seven four-star prospects and four three-star prospects compose the rest of the Buckeyes’ class. Ohio State has 19 commitments in the 2027 class in total, and the industry sees 15 of them as blue-chip prospects. Ohio State has traditionally signed top-five recruiting classes under Ryan Day. So the Buckeyes still have some work to do. Landing five-star Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School running back David Gabriel Georgia on July 22 would likely vault them into the top five.
