Ohio farmers generally don't pay taxes on diesel they use for off-road tractors and similar farm equipment

Asked if his plan was an attempt to benefit politically, cleveland.com reports that Ramaswamy replied, “‘This is a direct attempt to help families at a time they need it,’ pointing particularly to the need to lower diesel prices for farmers as harvest season begins” (“Legislative leaders scrambling for gas-tax plan,” Sept. 23).However, he’s either uninformed or trying to buy votes. Simply, farmers generally don’t pay off-road diesel tax in Ohio to run the tractors and other farm equipment they use to harvest their crops. Removing the diesel tax will not impact this already tax-free diesel fuel for the farmer’s harvest.George Henshaw,Hudson
