Office 2021 is unofficially getting three more years of security support, for a price

Published Sep 7, 2026, 12:31 AM EDT Simon is a Computer Science BSc graduate who has been writing about technology since 2014, and using Windows machines since 3.1. After working for an indie game studio and acting as the family's go-to technician for all computer issues, he found his passion for writing and decided to use his skill set to write about all things tech. Since beginning his writing career, he has written for many different publications such as WorldStart, Listverse, and MakeTechEasier. However, after finding his home at MakeUseOf in February 2019, he would eventually move on to its sister site, XDA, to bring the latest and greatest in Windows, Linux, and DIY electronics. Sign in to your XDA account Summary 0patch will provide critical security patches for Office 2021 through at least Oct 2029. 0patch Pro costs €24.95/year (about $30) for individuals; patches aren't free. It's a cheaper alternative to buying a new version of Office or subscribing to Microsoft 365. In a few months, Microsoft will pull support for Office 2021. If you want to keep yourself covered officially, Microsoft recommends that you buy a newer version of Office or subscribe to Microsoft 365...but, again, that's if you want to do things officially. If you'd prefer to keep using Office 2021 without worrying about a lack of security support, Acros Security's 0patch has the solution, although it's not a free one. 0patch will give users three more years of Office 2021 support at the very least You'll need to pay for it, though Credit: Microsoft As spotted by Neowin, Acros Security has announced a new product for its 0patch service. With the end of Office 2021's support happening in just over a month's time, Acros Security has brought the software under its wing, stating that anyone who subscribes to the service will get a few more years of use out of it: With October 2026, 0patch will "security-adopt" Office 2021 and will provide critical security patches for this Office version for at least 3 more years - and even longer if there's demand in the market. While this alone is a powerful alternative to Microsoft's offerings, it is a "patching jackpot" for those using Office on Windows 10, which went out of free support last October. The bad news is, these patches aren't free. The good news is, the price isn't too bad: the blog post states that the 0patch Pro subscription will cover you as an individual and clocks in at €24.95 EUR plus tax a year. That's just shy of $30 annually, and while it's not as good as free, it may be more palatable for your finances than purchasing a new version of Office or subscribing to Microsoft 365. On the other hand, now's the perfect time to try something new.
