The accused intercepted them, thrashed his friend before gang-raping the woman, according to police.The incident took place on Tuesday night when the woman was travelling with her male friend towards Kendrapara from Bhubaneswar, police said."When they stopped near Sukarpada village on the Cuttack-Chandbali Road, a group of four to six men intercepted them. The suspects thrashed the friend and gang-raped the woman," SP (Cuttack-Rural) Vinit Agrawal told PTI."The group fled the spot, leaving the two at the spot," he said. A case has been registered based on the complaint lodged by the survivor, Agrawal said, adding that a DSP-rank officer has been appointed as the investigating officer."Multiple teams have been formed to catch the accused persons.
