The monsoon season is over, the IMD said on Wednesday, September 30, noting that the seaon ended with a 13% rainfall deficit.The monsoon rain, however, continues to withdraw from different regions. As that happens, parts of the south and northeast will stay wet on Thursday, October 1, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest weather forecast on September 30.WHERE WILL IT RAIN?Heavy rain is very likely in isolated places throughout Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal."Isolated" means only a small share of places, up to 25% of weather stations, will get showers. Karnataka has already had a wet spell in the last 24 hours ending 8:30 am on Wednesday, September 30.Kibbanahalli in Tumakuru district recorded 10 cm of rain, the highest levels recorded by the IMD in the period.Thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are very likely at isolated places over Kerala and Mahe, Rayalaseema, and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. (Photo: PTI) MONSOON IS LEAVINGThe monsoon normally begins withdrawing from northwest India in mid-September and leaves the country by mid-October.This year, its withdrawal line currently runs through Gurdaspur, Chandigarh, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Dholpur, Udaipur and Deesa, and on to Naliya in Gujarat.The IMD noted that conditions are likely to become favourable over the next two to three days for withdrawal from the remaining parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.The same is expected for most of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, and all of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.Some parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra may also be covered.- Ends
