Three years ago, early in the morning on October 7, 2023, I spoke with a close friend in Israel who told me that his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Shlomi Mathias, had been murdered in their home at Kibbutz Holit. Deborah and Shlomi were peace-loving musicians who helped to found a bilingual Jewish-Arab school where they also taught. Leonard Saxe is the Klutznick Professor of Contemporary Jewish Studies and Social Policy at Brandeis University.
