OCTOBER 6, 2026 20:11The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue, Barry Avrich’s documentary about retired IDF Maj.-Gen. Noam Tibon’s extraordinary mission to save his son’s family during Hamas’s October 7 massacre is now available for streaming in the US on Paramount+.The film arrived on the service on September 29, ahead of the third anniversary of the Hamas attack. American viewers can watch it with a Paramount+ subscription through the service’s website or app.The documentary follows Tibon and his wife, Gali, as they undertake a desperate journey to Kibbutz Nahal Oz. Their son, Haaretz journalist Amir Tibon, his wife, Miri, and their two young daughters were hiding in their home’s safe room as terrorists attacked the kibbutz. Drawing on firsthand testimony and footage from that day, Avrich reconstructs a rescue that unfolds with thriller-like urgency. The journey involved much more than reaching their own family. Along the way, Noam and Gali helped both survivors fleeing the Nova music festival and wounded soldiers.Gali drove soldiers to a hospital, while Noam continued toward Nahal Oz, eventually joining troops fighting their way through the kibbutz. After hours of uncertainty, he reached his son’s home and brought the family to safety.Kibbutz members take part in traditional Shavuot Festival celebrations in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, near the Israeli border with the Gaza Strip, May 22, 2026; Illustrative. He explained that seeing Tibon on 60 Minutes prompted him to imagine how he would respond to a message like the one Noam received from Amir, begging for help.Tibon’s determination to help wounded strangers, even while his family’s fate remained unknown, became a central element of the film. The documentary won the People’s Choice Award for best documentary at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Its success followed a controversy in which it was initially removed from the festival’s lineup over clearance demands concerning Hamas bodycam footage, then reinstated after widespread protests. Its arrival on Paramount+ gives American audiences another opportunity to see this account of courage and survival, following its US theatrical release last October. Through one family’s experience, the moving film conveys both the terror of that day and the resolve of those who stepped forward to help.Follow us on Google
