After working for an indie game studio and acting as the family's go-to technician for all computer issues, he found his passion for writing and decided to use his skill set to write about all things tech. Since beginning his writing career, he has written for many different publications such as WorldStart, Listverse, and MakeTechEasier. However, after finding his home at MakeUseOf in February 2019, he would eventually move on to its sister site, XDA, to bring the latest and greatest in Windows, Linux, and DIY electronics. Hugging Face stays open-source, supports multi-cloud and multi-accelerator development. Nvidia pledges not to force its compute; developers can pick models, frameworks, clouds, and hardware. With Nvidia being one of the biggest players in the AI market, it seems the company wants to keep its hold on its position. The company has just announced that it has acquired the service Hugging Face in a huge move within the AI scene. Nvidia picks up Hugging Face for $12,930,300,000 but doesn't seem interested in messing with its formula Here's hoping it sticks to its guns In a blog post on the Nvidia website, the company announces that it has purchased the website Hugging Face. If you've never heard of it before, Hugging Face is a website where people can pick out open-source AI models to perform specific tasks, and either grab the models for their own hardware or run it on cloud-hosted hardware. As you might imagine, some people will be nervous to hear that a large company has moved to purchase a largely user-driven platform. However, Nvidia makes it clear that it has no intent to ruin what Hugging Face has already built itself upon: Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the entire AI ecosystem. Developers will choose the models they want, the frameworks they want, the clouds and inference service providers they want and the computing platforms they want. NVIDIA compute will not be required to build on or deploy through Hugging Face. Hugging Face will continue to support open source and open weight models from across the ecosystem, from every model builder. It will continue to support multi-cloud and multi-accelerator development and deployment, so builders can use the hardware and infrastructure that best fit their work. In fact, Nvidia makes a case for its previous aid with the website. It claims that it is "the largest contributor of open models and data to Hugging Face," with over 500 models and 250 datasets on the platform. It also claims that it builds models so that "developers everywhere can use them, modify them and build on top of them," which sounds reassuring. If you've never used Hugging Face before, one of our writers, Nolen Jonker, recently stopped downloading bigger local models and started running two small ones at once, which involved a model from said website.
