Notre Dame offers elite 2028 CB Jermaine Cobbins | Newsstand

The No. 1 player in Tennessee in the 2028 class and a projected five-star cornerback, Jermaine Cobbins landed a Notre Dame offer Friday, he announced on social media. The Irish were the latest school to offer the 6-foot, 175-pound Cobbins out of Springfield (Tenn.) High. He is the No. 28 overall player and No. 4 cornerback in the class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. Although he is currently rated as a four-star prospect, Cobbins would be a five-star prospect if the cycle ended today since he is ranked among the top 32 players nationally. With offers from Texas, Michigan, Oklahoma, USC, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Miami, Georgia, Alabama and Texas A&M, Cobbins is one of the most coveted prospects in the class. As a sophomore in 2025, he tallied 41 tackles (21 solo), 1 tackle for loss, 1 pass breakup, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery and 2 forced fumbles in 12 games. He broke out as a freshman in 2024 with 48 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 5 pass breakups, 4 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery. Although he is an elite cornerback from the South, the Irish cannot be overlooked in Cobbins’ recruitment. In the 2026 class, Notre Dame signed Chaz Smith out of Knoxville (Tenn.) Catholic, the No. 3 cornerback and No. 11 player in the state. The Irish currently have one defensive back verbally committed in the 2028 class: four-star safety Andre Jones out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas.
