Not for free: Yash hits back at trolls calling Tabaahi a condom advertisement

Actor Yash has hit back at trolls who mocked Tabaahi, a song from Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, by calling it a condom advertisement. Responding to the remarks, Yash used humour to address the wider discussion around the intimate scenes in the film with Kiara Advani.Speaking on Aap Ki Adalat, Yash said Toxic does not cross into vulgarity and described it as a film built around Gen-Z, the conversations they have about older generations, fixed rules and the questions they ask.Asked why some people were comparing the Tabaahi video to a condom advertisement, Yash said, “Agar condom ad karna hai, toh paise leke karunga. Aise muft mein nahi karunga” (If I have to do a condom advertisement, I will do it for money. I will not do it for free).Yash said the film stays within a limit and does not slip into vulgarity. “Vulgarity is wrong. Maine toh kiss bhi nahi kiya hain, agar aapne dekha hoga toh (I have not even kissed, as you may have noticed),” he said, adding that there is a line and the team understands it. He said such scenes have to be shot aesthetically and that what later appears visually striking is part of cinema’s impact and a creator’s voice. What the film is trying to sayYash said Toxic is aimed at Gen-Z and is rooted in the conversations younger people have about seniors and the rules they are expected to follow. He said the film focusses on the questions they ask about older generations, including why there are fixed rules and why things have to be done in a certain way. According to him, that is the primary conversation in the film.Radhika Pandit’s reactionIn the same interview, Yash also spoke about how his wife, former actor Radhika Pandit, reacted to the intimate scenes. He said every partner would feel uncomfortable and that he did not want to lie about that. At the same time, he said both of them understand that it is part of the craft and that what the film is trying to achieve is very different. He said some things have to be recorded because the story is important. Yash added that stepping into such scenes was not easy for him either and that he had moved out of his comfort zone because the story demanded it and because the moments were crucial to the film. He said Radhika trusts him and understands that, when he is performing, it is an actor doing his job and not her husband.Defence of Kiara AdvaniYash also defended Kiara Advani after she faced social media backlash over the intimate scenes in Tabaahi. At the trailer launch in Bengaluru last week, he said actors should do what they believe in and that people would eventually celebrate and appreciate it.
