Penguin India said it is not the publisher of Sonia Gandhi's memoir 'Belonging' and said reports suggesting it decided against publishing the book because the Congress leader declined editorial changes were inaccurate.Media reports said Penguin dropped Sonia Gandhi’s memoir over editorial differences.Penguin Random House India has pushed back against reports that it dropped Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s much-anticipated memoir after she rejected editorial changes and deletions sought by the publisher.In a statement shared on its X page on Saturday, the publishing house said it is not the publisher of ‘Belonging: A Journey of Love in India’ and said reports suggesting it decided against publishing the book because Gandhi declined editorial changes were inaccurate."Any suggestion that Penguin Random House India decided not to publish ‘Belonging’ because the author declined editorial changes does not accurately reflect the circumstances," the company said.The clarification follows a report by The Indian Express that Penguin Random House India had pulled out of publishing the memoir after Gandhi rejected proposed changes and deletions to part of the manuscript. Penguin India, in its statement, said fact-checking manuscripts and making editorial recommendations are a normal part of the publishing process."As a publisher, it is both our prerogative and our responsibility to fact check and provide authors with recommendations that are in the best interests of their books," it said.
