North-East Teachers’ Constituency to go to polls on October 23

Regional Commissioner of the Kalaburagi Division, Zaheera Naseem. | Photo Credit: ARUN KULKARNI The Election Commission of India has announced the biennial election to the Karnataka Legislative Council from the North-East Teachers’ Constituency, with polling scheduled for October 23 and counting of votes on October 27.The constituency comprises Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, Ballari, Koppal, Yadgir and Vijayanagara districts. Regional Commissioner of Kalaburagi Division Zaheera Naseem is the Returning Officer and Electoral Registration Officer for the constituency.According to the election schedule, the notification will be issued on September 29. Candidates can file their nominations from September 29 to October 6, excluding government holidays, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on October 7, while October 9 is the last date for withdrawal of candidature.Polling will be held on October 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Counting of votes will begin at 8 a.m. on October 27. The election process is scheduled to be completed by October 31. The Election Commission has also brought the Model Code of Conduct into force with immediate effect in the constituency.Nomination forms can be obtained from the Election Branch of the Regional Commissioner’s office. Completed nomination papers have to be submitted at the conference hall on the second floor of the District Administrative Complex in Kalaburagi.The Deputy Commissioners of the seven districts will function as Assistant Returning Officers. The Deputy Commissioners, Commissioners of the Kalaburagi, Ballari, Bidar and Raichur city corporations, Assistant Commissioners and Tahsildars will function as Assistant Electoral Registration Officers.In a media note issued on Wednesday, Ms. Naseem said her office has established a complaint monitoring cell to receive complaints relating to violations of the Model Code of Conduct and election guidelines. The cell will function round the clock.Members of the public can lodge complaints by calling 08472-200255 or submit them in writing to the Election Branch, Office of the Regional Commissioner, second floor, District Administrative Complex, Station Road, Kalaburagi-585102.The election is one of four Karnataka Legislative Council constituency elections scheduled for October 23.
