Norm Architects designs first US Audo House in New York

Danish design brand Audo Copenhagen has opened its first Audo House showroom outside Scandinavia inside a landmarked New York City building, to coincide with NYCxDesign 2026. With interiors by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen of Norm Architects, Audo House occupies a ground-floor space on Laight Street that will display a rotating collection of furniture and objects, and host a variety of events. Audo House New York provides a space for the Danish brand to showcase products and host events "With Audo House New York we wanted to create a dialogue between our roots in Copenhagen and the unmistakable character of New York," said Audo Copenhagen design and brand director Joachim Kornbek-Engell Hansen. "Set in a historic Tribeca building, the space blends Scandinavian calm with the raw texture and energy that define the neighbourhood – creating a place where design, culture and community naturally come together." Soft, warm beige walls contrast the dark-stained wooden floors Inside, exposed brick and structural columns are painted a soft beige tone that contrasts the dark-stained wooden floors. The warm neutral palette reflects Audo Copenhagen's Scandinavian design principles that carry through the furniture and decor items on show. Structural columns are wrapped in ridged flares around their bases Back of house areas are hidden behind fritted glass panels between a rhythm of batons, and can by further disguised by full-height curtains that draw across Lime plaster adds texture to the ceilings, while column bases are wrapped in ridged flares that evoke industrial machinery. "Rather than imposing a new identity onto the building, the design works in conversation with the existing structure and interior architecture," said the brand. "The cadence of columns, generous volumes and filtered light establish a spatial framework that guides movement through the interior." The interiors are styled by long-time Audo Copenhagen collaborator Colin King, whose Interconnect candle holder is one of the brand's most recognisable products. Furniture and decor accessories are styled as they might be in a residential space Paintings and sculptures by Portland-based artist Benjamin Ewing are carefully positioned across the showroom, continuing a language developed at its counterpart in Copenhagen. Pieces such as the Elizabeth and Tired Man lounge chairs, Eave sectional, Volume side table and Crescent shelving are arranged in vignettes as they might look in a residential space. A large Androgyne Dining Table forms a centrepiece within the showroom, while small accessories and accent pieces are scattered throughout. Audo House occupies a historic building on Laight Street in Tribeca "Furniture is arranged as it would be in a lived environment to invite use, conversation and pause," the brand said. "Meanwhile, lighting, textiles and objects create an atmosphere of warmth and ease, allowing the space to unfold gradually and reveal itself through experience." This year's NYCxDesign festival officially runs 14-20 May 2026, with events and product launches taking place across the city.
