No one should ever have to choose an outfit for their husband’s funeral – but there’s a poignant reason I still wear it

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. . . Don’t worry, I’m not talking about Christmas – it’s London Fashion Week! The past few days have been a whirlwind of shows, soirées and catching up with friends, and I’ve loved every moment of it, although I’m definitely ready for a cosy night in soon with my Maltese terrier Kev. My style is part of my identity, and when I sign off a new design for my own fashion line, L.A-S, I still get such a thrill. Back in my 20s, when I was figuring out what my look was, there were no influencers, and social media wasn’t like it is today. It was pop stars and actresses we all looked to for inspo, and I loved the All Saints girls, Jennifer Aniston, and Rachel Stevens in her S Club 7 era – all little vest tops, combats and big belts. I never look back at photos of old outfits and cringe – I don’t believe in fashion faux pas. It’s all just part of the journey to discovering your personal style. Now, I love classic, capsule pieces from labels like Max Mara and YSL, paired with a great coat and banging shoes – I treat myself to a new pair of Manolo Blahnik slingbacks every year. I mix designer labels with high-street brands and also love online labels like Because Of Alice, which bridge the price gap between them. Chic, elegant and timeless is the vibe I aim for, and Victoria Beckham definitely influences me. She’s the perfect example of a woman who dresses sexily, but never OTT. I think she nails it every time. I actually wore one of her designs to John’s funeral. Nobody ever imagines they’ll have to choose an outfit to say goodbye to their husband, but John loved seeing me all dolled up, and I was determined to do him proud that day. A friend and I hit the shops and I went with a beautiful black VB dress, which I loved so much I also bought it in white. I’ve worn it since, as I know John wouldn’t want me to hide it at the back of the wardrobe and feel sad when I look at it. When I’m at home and want to relax, I have my uniform of a Juicy Couture tracksuit and Skims bodysuit. I’m a repeat purchaser and have 15 of each! I like not having to think about what I’m going to wear at home and save that creativity instead for when I’m out. And one of my non-negotiable fashion rules is to always wear matching underwear. I wear the Lorna bra and knickers from Agent Provocateur in a range of colours, but never white, due to my fake-tan habit. When your underwear matches, you feel like you have your s**t together. I’m not a hoarder and I do like to keep my wardrobe fresh, so I sell my clothes on Vinted. Fashion is meant to be enjoyed and seen, not left to gather dust in a drawer, and I love the idea that other women will wear my clothes and feel good about themselves. I’ve actually got some exciting fashion-related news about a collaboration with a well-known brand. I was shooting in Paris earlier this month for the campaign and can’t wait to reveal more. . .
