(Credits: Instagram)Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday welcomed Parliament's passage of the anti-paper leak Bill, calling it a major step towards reforming India's examination system and vowing strict action against those involved in paper leak rackets.In a video shared on Instagram after both Houses passed the Bill, Modi said successive state and central governments had grappled with the challenge of paper leaks for decades, putting the future of millions of students at risk.The Prime Minister said the government had been introducing reforms to strengthen the examination process, including changes to the system, faster mechanisms and greater use of technology."We are continuously taking one step after another. Whether it is reforming the examination system, introducing fast-track measures, or taking into account suggestions from the states, we are moving ahead," he said. 'THERE'S A NEED FOR STRINGENT LAWS'Modi said reforms in the education system had become essential at both the Centre and state levels and stressed the need to fully leverage technology to prevent examination fraud.The Prime Minister said those involved in paper leak rackets would face stringent legal action. "Paper mafias and gangs involved in paper leaks, those who play with the future of the country's children, will not be spared. There is a need for stringent laws against them," he said.'AN IMPORTANT MILESTONE'Referring to the legislation, Modi said Parliament had debated the Bill in both Houses over two days before approving it."This marks an important milestone in reforming the examination system. The work will continue. We will not allow such situations to persist for long," he said.Parliament passed a bill to amend the anti-paper leak law to introduce stricter punishments, with the government expressing its commitment to go the extra mile to safeguard the interests of students, who are the country's future.The Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, was cleared in the Rajya Sabha with a voice vote amid a walkout by several Opposition parties of the India bloc.
