Nintendo Switch 2 is at its lowest price ever but you better act fast

Not even Nintendo has been safe from the ongoing memory shortages, which prompted it to announce a price increase for the Switch 2 console ahead of its one-year anniversary this summer. The increase came into effect earlier this month, so now the Switch 2 officially costs £419.99. That’s £24 more than its original £395.99 price tag, although that’s not nearly as big a price hike as the ones for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. If you’ve yet to invest in a Switch 2, but find the new price too off-putting, you’ll want to know that, for no apparent reason, the console has seen a very generous price cut that makes it even cheaper than it was originally. Earlier today, we spotted both Argos and Smyths selling the Switch 2 for £354.99, which the former accurately advertises as the console’s lowest price ever. The console doesn’t come with anything extra, so there’s no games bundled with it, but that’s still a very enticing offer when it’s £65 cheaper than normal. If you buy a Switch 2 from Smyths you can also net yourself a carry case for just £10, instead of the usual £14.99. We wondered if this was an official price drop, but no other retailers are selling the Switch 2 this cheap – so we couldn’t tell you why Argos and Smyths are being so generous. The next best offer is at EE, which is selling the console for £368, followed by Currys and Very, which have it at £389.99. These offers will likely be snapped up quickly once people become more aware of them, especially if they’re looking to invest in a Switch 2 for November’s remake of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. This also makes the Switch 2 the best option if you’re looking for a new games console for Christmas, especially as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X remain far more expensive at £519.99 and £619.99, respectively. It’s unlikely Microsoft will offer a price cut on its consoles for the holiday season, since despite Xbox sales continuing to plummet it’s never done so before and, while no official annoucement has been made, it seems Microsoft has slowed down hardware production considerably. Sony, meanwhile, has no incentive to offer price cuts on the PlayStation 5 since GTA 6 is launching in November. While it’s not a console exclusive, Sony has been heavily promoting it to the point where it might as well be and given how good the pre-order figures reportedly are, it’s expected to drive up PlayStation 5 sales too. As such, Sony will want to make as much money as it can, although it’s still unclear whether there’ll be an official bundle with the PlayStation 5 console and a copy of GTA 6.
