As it makes clear at pretty much every opportunity, Nintendo marches to the beat of its own drum more than any other company in gaming. It has its own faults, sure, but while PlayStation and Xbox chase trends like live-services and put most of their time and money into trying to push graphics even further, Nintendo is mostly content just making fun games. Unlike PlayStation with its temporary foray into porting games to PC and Xbox and its controversial, since walked back third-party push, Nintendo notably likes to keep its franchises solely on its own hardware. Even with console exclusives changing so much this console generation, it sounds like Nintendo won't be steering away from that approach any time soon. Nintendo Isn’t Interested And Doesn’t “Need” To Go Multiplatform There Go My Hopes Of Smash On Every Platform As pointed out by My Nintendo News, GamesBeat recently assembled some notable industry veterans to talk about the current state of gaming. One of the members of the panel was none other than former Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser, who shed some light on the company’s approach to releasing its software and games. Bowser said that the conversation about creating consoles and games has always been “different” for Nintendo since both teams work together to “optimise the build” at the “lowest costs”. The former president pointed out that there’s a “huge gap” in the cost of development at Nintendo and every other studio. That approach is something that has “always worked” for the company, with Bowser adding that it’s focused on creating a “Nintendo universe”. Interestingly, Bowser said that Nintendo doesn’t “feel the need” to “take it beyond the platform”, suggesting that Nintendo simply isn’t interested in bringing its games to other consoles. Of course, this isn’t exactly a revelation, as Nintendo has always been known for keeping its exclusives, well, exclusive and being incredibly protective of its IP. Still, with Xbox and PlayStation both experimenting with wider releases, it’s nice to know that one console leader is sticking with its own audience.
