Nicole Kidman has shared how battling a childhood stutter affected her acting career as she revealed the technique she used to overcome it. The Australian actress, 59, had a stutter when she was around four to six years old and says it is probably one of the reasons she is so softly spoken. And now, in an interview with Attitude Magazine ahead of the release of Practical Magic 2, Nicole confessed that when she was younger: 'I'd try to speak and it wouldn't come out.' Learning about her stutter for the first time her co-star Sandra Bullock exclaimed: 'I never knew you had a stutter? How old were you?' 'Um four, five, six. Through those ages,' explained Nicole. 'I would know exactly what I wanted to say and I'd be almost excited to say, but it wouldn't, it would just take time to come out.'Asked if she ever experiences it now, Nicole continued: 'Sometimes I'll have like a second or two of it, but I've learned a technique, and I've learned how to manage it. 'So because I would try to speak and then it wouldn't come out, and so the stop and pause. So that's actually quite good for life too.'Discussing her stutter in the past, Nicole also attributed it to her shyness. 'I am very shy – really shy – I even had a stutter as a kid, which I slowly got over, but I still regress into that shyness," she admits. 'So I don't like walking into a crowded restaurant by myself. I don't like going to a party by myself.'I remember when I was little just being so excited to get it out and I couldn't get it out. I just remember everyone always saying to me, "Calm down, think about what you're gonna say."'Nicole and Sandra are currently promoting the sequel to their 1998 hit Practical Magic. And last Friday Nicole made a surprise appearance in Sydney, delighting fans at the Practical Magic 2 screening at HOYTS Cinemas Entertainment Quarter.Viewers at the special showing were stunned to see the Hollywood star, reacting with roaring cheers and applause to her sudden arrival as she announced: 'I couldn't let you have margaritas without me!'As she entered the theatre, the Australian actress looked decades younger than her age in an ivory satin and lace floral dress from Erdem's Resort 2027 collection.'It's really lovely 28 years later, as women, to still be here,' Kidman told the crowd. 'So thank you for decades and decades of support. I love you.'The movie star went on to reveal she had flown to Australia to surprise her fans Down Under after walking the red carpet for the Los Angeles premiere.Nicole's daughter Faith was also in attendance at the Sydney premiere.She went on to bring the magical evening to a close by leading the audience in a final midnight margarita toast, wishing her fans well before departing.It comes after Nicole made headlines for her jolly antics at the Practical Magic 2 premiere in LA last Monday night.The Aussie A-lister, along with co-stars Sandra Bullock, Maisie Williams and Joey King, turned out for the US premiere of the long-awaited sequel to the 1998 romantic fantasy film.In an interview with Entertainment Tonight shared online this week, the star was asked what designer she was wearing.She stumbled over her words at one point, asking the interviewer, 'Huh?' before rambling: 'This is Versace. Have fun. Let's party!'The clip amused scores of social media users, who flooded the comments section on Instagram with their thoughts about the 'iconic' actress.'She makes me want to wear a wig and get drunk,' joked one fan, while another said, 'She's such an icon.''"This is Versace.
