Prime Video is calling an audible on its Madden biopic release date. With just under four months to go until its original November 26 date, Prime Video has announced that Madden is officially releasing early. The biopic stars Nicolas Cage as John Madden, the legendary Oakland Raiders football coach and sports commentator whose legacy earned him recognition as one of the greatest football coaches of all time. The movie is directed by David O. Russell from a screenplay co-written by Russell and Cambron Clark. Originally, the movie was slated for a late November release date, something that's now changed thanks to its latest announcement. In a Prime Video announcement from star Nicolas Cage, who talks about the iconic football coach-turned-commentator, it was revealed that the biopic is going to now premiere on November 18. In the video, the Oscar winner offers some deep praise for Madden's skills in his job as both a football coach, and as a sports commentator. He also spoke about who he was as a person, alongside the legacy he's left behind in football coaching, commentary, and through the sports video game industry. Check out the announcement below: Alongside Cage, the movie also stars Christian Bale as Al Davis, who served as general manager on the Oakland Raiders for 39 years. Other cast members include Kathryn Hahn as Madden's wife, Virginia; Sienna Miller as Carol Davis, Al's wife and a part owner of the Raiders; Joel Murray as sportscaster Pat Summerall; John Mulaney as Trip Hawkins, who signed Madden to Electronic Arts and paved the way for the Madden NFL video game series; and Shane Gillis in an undisclosed role. He got his start with the Raiders, taking them to a number of playoff and division championship games, including the franchise's first Super Bowl win during Super Bowl XI. He also holds the record for highest winning percentage of NFL head coaches who coached over 100 games. As a sports commentator, he won 16 Sports Emmy Awards, his commentary being a staple across various networks. While he'll always be remembered for his coaching and commentary, he also lives on through the world of gaming. The Madden NFL games are a yearly video game series published by EA Sports, with the coach serving as the namesake for the gaming series. The series even paid tribute to Madden with the cover art of Madden NFL 23, released in 2022, one year after his death. Madden NFL 27, the next game in the series, will be released on August 13, 2026. With Madden now coming to Prime Video one week early, it will be just a bit shorter of a wait to see Cage embody the famous football legend and bring his legacy to life. Given the casting for the film, it seems the movie will be delving into every core aspect of his career, from his time working on-the-ground in football, to his eventual permanent legacy through an ongoing video game series. As the release date draws closer, more about the film will doubtlessly be revealed. Developing... Release Date November 26, 2026 Director David O. Russell Writers Cambron Clark, David O.
