“It’s tough for blokes. You’re made to be the bad guy.” These are the words delivered to Joe Cole‘s character Steve by a masculine confidante in the trail for Nicola Coughlan and Dominic Savage‘s new Channel 4 show I Am Helen. The show is the latest in Savage’s I Am… anthology telling female stories, which won Kate Winslet a BAFTA for I Am Ruth. This one tackles the hot-button topic of toxic masculinity, which we revealed earlier this year. Coughlan constructed the two-parter with Savage and Cole is her co-star. Told through a female lens, the story examines the pressures and expectations placed on women while confronting the realities of toxic masculinity and the damage it can create in modern relationships. Previous I Am… installments tackling the major issues of the day have featured the likes of Letitia Wright, Samantha Morton and Gemma Chan. Me+ You Productions is behind I Am Helen. The series is produced by Krishnendu Majumdar and Savage. I Am is co-funded by Sky Studios and international sales are handled by NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution.
