Child's Reacher novel series dates back to 1997's Killing Floor, the first book to feature the character of Jack Reacher, a hulking former Major in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps who travels around America solving crimes and helping those in need. The Prime Video adaptation of the novel series has been a massive success, and it just recently expanded into a franchise with the release of the Neagley spinoff show. Speaking with Collider, Child, who has now passed writing duties on the Reacher book series on to his younger brother, Andrew Child, now teases that a candidate for a new spinoff show has emerged in the form of Susan Turner. Andrew Child recently brought Turner back for the latest Reacher book, Chain Reaction, and Lee Child thinks she could lead a new Neagley-style series. Check out his comment below: I was glad that Andrew [Child] brought back Susan Turner. Good character, but also a spin-off opportunity because we’ve already got Neagley, and Amazon tends to want as much as possible if it’s working. And so, do they want another spin-off? In which case, she’ll do. Susan Turner was first featured in 61 Hours (2010), and later returned in Never Go Back (2013). Though neither of these books have been adapted by the TV series so far, Never Go Back did serve as the basis for the second Tom Cruise Jack Reacher movie. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016) sees Cobie Smulders take on the role of Turner, who served as the commander of the U.S. Army 110th MP Special Investigations Unit. In Chain Reaction, Turner returns with even more power. In the new novel, which hit shelves on October 20, Turner is now a general, and she commands the CSA G-99 section, a military investigative unit that reports directly to the Army's Chief of Staff. The new novel features Turner seeking out Reacher's help after a young cyberspecialist is killed, and she finds herself unable to trust her own department. Chain Reaction is the thirty-first novel in the Jack Reacher series, and the third in the series to be written by Andrew Child as a solo author after collaborating with Lee Child on The Sentinel (2020), Better Off Dead (2021), No Plan B (2022), and The Secret (2023). Though no additional Reacher spinoff has been ordered at Amazon, one wouldn't necessarily be surprising. Neagley, which stars Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, was a massive success, drawing 40 million viewers in the 13 days after its September 13 premiere. Neagley was subsequently renewed for season 2 on October 1. Alongside a sophomore outing for Neagley, the flagship Prime Video show is also still going strong. Following strong viewership for Reacher season 4, season 5 is on the way and targeting a September 2027 premiere. After season 4 adapted the events of Gone Tomorrow (2009), season 5 adapts Make Me (2015), the twentieth novel in the series. It remains to be seen whether a Susan Turner-led spinoff show will get the green light at Amazon, but one factor working against the idea is currently that the character has not been featured in the show. Reacher has been renewed for season 6, though, and if that season adapts a book with Turner in it, the character could certainly take on a bigger role in the franchise moving forward.
