The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) corporators of the Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC) asked the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders to respect the mandate given by the people in the recent elections to the Corporation.Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday (November 5, 2026), the newly elected TDP corporators — Praveen Kumar, Surendra, Sunkanna, Krishnaveni, and Lalitha, along with former corporator Pamanna — said that in the KMC elections held on November 1, Anand, the TDP candidate for the 23rd ward, won by a margin of 118 votes. They refuted the allegations made by YSRCP leaders that the YSRCP candidate had actually won the ward and that Minister of Industries and Commerce T.G. Bharath Gupta had misused his authority to declare the TDP candidate the winner. The TDP corporators clarified that candidates from their own party had also faced defeat in certain wards, yet they have chosen to respect the people’s verdict and move forward. They further stated that it is inappropriate for YSRCP leaders to level baseless criticisms against Mr. Bharath regarding the outcome in the 23rd ward.“If the Minister wanted to influence the elections by using his official position to secure victories for his candidates, the alliance would have won every single seat, and the YSRCP would not have managed to secure even 11 seats,” they said. They stated that Mr. Bharath has taught them to conduct themselves with political decorum, rather than engaging in unnecessary criticism of opponents.“Even as we are capable of levelling numerous criticisms against YSRCP leaders, we choose to exercise restraint out of respect for democratic traditions,” they said and urged the YSRCP leaders to withdraw their criticisms regarding the outcome in the 23rd ward and to respect the mandate given by the people. Any further unnecessary criticism directed at Mr. Bharath would be met with an appropriate response, they said. Published - November 05, 2026 08:19 pm IST
