While the changing of the guard (and the CEO) injected some optimism in the community, the subsequent layoffs and divestment of studios did not. However, there's still plenty of time to turn things around, especially since Project Helix is looming in the distance. If Microsoft can come out strong and say that Project Helix will have a disc drive, there's a chance they could sway people back with some good first-party offerings; like a new mainline Halo that gets back to basics, with stronger multiplayer than Halo Infinite. A big launch with a Halo game and maybe something like Banjo Kazooie 3 would make for a strong start, for instance. In case you forgot, a see-through special 25th anniversary Xbox Series X is coming later this year. Microsoft revealed the model live at Summer Game Fest (SGF) at their 25th anniversary event, and since then, fans have been waiting for any concrete info on it. Microsoft has been mostly mum, but thanks to a leak, we have an idea of how much it might cost: $899.99 USD. That's roughly the cost of the PlayStation 5 Pro, which was raised to $899.99 USD earlier this year. While this is just a leak and not official confirmation, a 25th anniversary special edition console costing as much as a currently sold PlayStation 5 Pro would fit. While it's not an enhanced model in any way in terms of hardware, the fancy design will no doubt become a collector's item, as will the accompanying controller that's set to arrive around the same time. Allegedly, the console is set to release on November 27, 2026, which lines up with Black Friday. All of this data makes sense, but ideally we'll find out more very soon. Based on reports, we can expect more info at Gamescom next week, but if the release is delayed, we might not hear about it for a while. Microsoft has a lot going on right now amid a collector's edition console launch. We need to wait a bit longer to find out what Xbox has in store for Project Helix and the next console generation, but for now, we're still in the era of the Xbox Series X/S.
