New Version Of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar Officially Releasing Next Year

Marking Christopher Nolan's follow-up to The Dark Knight Rises (2012), the 2014 space epic stars Matthew McConaughey as Cooper, the leader of a team of astronauts who embark on a mission to find a new planet for humanity. Interstellar may now be 12 years old, but it remains a favorite for many in the filmmaker's filmmography, and it's now set for a special return. Per a new post from The O2, next year will see the release of Interstellar Live with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This special event screening will take place on Sunday, May 23, 2027, at the O2 arena in London, England. Tickets for the event go on sale Friday, September 11, at 10am BST (5am ET). Those with O2 or Virgin Media get access to priority tickets on Wednesday, September 9. Interstellar Live with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is currently scheduled for only two shows on May 23, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. The orchestra will be conducted by Hans Zimmer conductor Matt Dunkley and will feature Roger Sayer, the organist featured on the film's original soundtrack. Nolan and Zimmer have collaborated on six movies, starting with Batman Begins in 2005 and ending (for now) with Dunkirk in 2017. The Interstellar score remains one of the most celebrated among these collaborations, and Zimmer was even nominated for the Best Original Score Oscar for his work. Interstellar may have a somewhat lukewarm 73% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it has endured as a Nolan classic. The film's epic visuals, sound, and powerful emotion have made it a popular choice for limited re-releases and screenings at independent theaters. The last major release for the film was in 2024 for its tenth anniversary. Clocking in at two hours and 49 minutes and featuring a supporting cast that includes Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, John Lithgow, Mackenzie Foy, David Oyelowo, Timothée Chalamet, and Matt Damon, Interstellar was a major box office hit. Made on a budget of $165 million, the movie grossed $774.7 million worldwide. Special orchestra screenings of movies remain popular, with Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter, among others, having played in this format in various countries around the world in recent years. If Interstellar Live with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra proves popular, it's entirely possible the film will get another release in this format in the future. Nolan continues to be one of the most successful directors in Hollywood, recently releasing his acclaimed The Odyssey (2026), which marks another collaboration with Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson.
