New Ubuntu Concept ISO For Snapdragon Laptops Brings First X2 Laptop Support

It's been a while since Canonical announced any new ISOs of their Ubuntu builds targeting Qualcomm Snapdragon X series laptops. But ahead of this week's Ubuntu 26.10 beta release, they shipped new Ubuntu 26.10 Snapdragon Concept images today with improved Snapdragon X1 laptop support as well as the initial Snapdragon X2 laptop support. Ubuntu 26.10 Snapdragon Edition concept images brings improvements for existing X1 laptops thanks to moving to the latest Linux 7.3 kernel. Additionally, there are some new X1 systems now supported by Ubuntu including the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3, Lenovo Ideacentre Mini 01q8x10, and HONOR MagicBook Art 14. Most exciting with this Ubuntu Concept 26.10 Snapdragon Edition build is the very first Snapdragon X2 laptops being supported. The initially supported X2 laptops by Ubuntu Linux include the ASUS Zenbook A14/A16, Lenovo Yoga Slim 7, and HP EliteBook X G2q. This comes with Canonical working with Qualcomm to provide an official, certified and fully optimized Snapdragon X2 Ubuntu image in 2027. Last week at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii Qualcomm talked up their outlook for Snapdragon X2 laptops. Hopefully this all pans out in 2027 and we find our hands on some X2 hardware for Linux testing and benchmarking.
