New Tangled Set Photos Reveal Rapunzel’s Live-Action Arrival & Costume In Best Look Yet

The clearest look yet at Rapunzel in Disney's live-action version of Tangled has dropped. 16 years after the original Tangled was released in theaters, the upcoming live-action Disney remake has been filming for a little over a month now, with Teagan Croft starring as Rapunzel. Officially, the studio has yet to release any looks at the actor playing the role previously voiced by Mandy Moore in animation. Unofficially, however, new pictures have arrived that provide a closeup look of Croft as Rapunzel in her costume. In set photos shared by @TangledUpdates, Croft is seen sitting on the Tangled set between scenes wearing Rapunzel’s pink dress from the original movie. Croft’s blonde hair is also fully on display, though it should be noted that this is her actual hair rather than the elaborate wig she’s been wearing for her scenes as Rapunzel. However, those trademark long locks have been glimpsed in previous Tangled set photos. In one photo, Croft appears to be holding a fan in her lap that's pointing upwards at her face. Prior to being cast as Rapunzel, Croft was best known for playing the superhero Raven on the live-action DC TV show Titans, which ran for four seasons on HBO Max. Tangled is her third feature-length film, following the Australian releases The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One and True Spirit. Croft was announced to be playing Rapunzel in January 2026. The live-action Tangled originally entered development in December 2024, with The Greatest Showman’s Michael Gracey being tapped to direct, and I Know What You Did Last Summer’s Jennifer Kaytin Robinson writing the script. However, in April 2025, development was reportedly paused due to the Rachel Zegler-led Snow White underperforming commercially. Work on Tangled subsequently resumed in October, this time with Michael Montemayor also coming aboard as a writer. Croft is joined in this new take on Tangled by Agatha All Along’s Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel, and School Spirits’ Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. Andor’s Diego Luna has also been cast in an undisclosed role, and towering twins Patrick and Hugo McPherson were revealed to be playing the Stabbington Brothers in earlier set photos. Cameras have been rolling on Tangled in various locations in Spain since June 24. The original Tangled, loosely adapting the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale “Rapunzel,” was released on November 24, 2010. Moore’s co-stars included Zachary Levi, Donna Murphy, Brad Garrett, Ron Perlman, Jeffrey Tambor, and Richard Kiel, among others. The movie was followed by the Tangled Ever After short film in 2012, and then Tangled: The Series, which ran for three seasons on Disney Channel from 2017 to 2020. A new continuation tale titled Rootbound: A Tangled Novel is now available to purchase. The live-action Tangled is reportedly expected to be released in 2028, but this hasn't been confirmed yet. Its animated predecessor can be streamed on Disney+. Moana, the latest live-action Disney remake/adaptation, arrived in theaters last month, and next up on this particular slate is Lilo & Stitch 2 releasing on May 26, 2028.
