New superintendent named for south Alabama school district with 30,000 students

By Patrick Darrington | pdarrington@al.comThe Baldwin County Board of Education has selected Marty McRae to become the next superintendent of Baldwin County Public Schools, according to an announcement Thursday.McRae currently serves as interim superintendent and will transition into his new role immediately to lead the school system that serves over 30,000 students while employing 4,500 people.McRae’s selection comes just a few weeks after former Baldwin County Public Schools superintendent Eddie Tyler retired on June 30 after 11 years in the position.McRae has 36 years of public education experience having served in numerous ways including as a teacher, coach, principal, technology coordinator and assistant superintendent all within Baldwin County.“I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to serve as superintendent of Baldwin County Public Schools,” McRae said. “Baldwin County is a special place, one that must be preserved while also making the district one of the most competitive in the state.
