There are a shocking number of Pikachu clones that have appeared throughout Pokémon's history. From the expected, like Pichu, to the more creative, like Togedemaru, these Pikachu clones have served as excellent unofficial variants of the iconic electric mouse. It's not terribly surprising that Pokémon's most popular, or, at the very least, most recognizable, 'mon has been more or less repackaged numerous times, especially as the design is simple yet creative. However, while all Pikachu clones are great, only a handful truly stand out as being memorable. The very best Pikachu clones have a certain je ne sais quoi about them, an undefinable trait that has seen their popularity skyrocket far above their contemporaries. Among these best clones is one particular Pikachu-like, a Pokémon with such a distinctive design that doesn't get the attention it deserves. Fortunately, The Pokémon Company has seen fit to rectify that by releasing a brand-new product that puts this particular Pikachu clone front and center, officially confirming, once and for all, that it is the best. New Pokémon Release Looks Perfect For Pikachu Fans The Pokémon Company is collaborating with Beats Electronics to deliver a brand-new Pokémon-inspired speaker. Frankly, this isn't the weirdest Pokémon collaboration to happen this year, especially considering that the design of the speakers is rather impressive. One may have expected a Beats Pill speaker with a Poké Ball in the middle, or merely Pikachu's face, but Beats has gone down a slightly more creative route. The Pokémon × Beats Pill Wireless Bluetooth Speaker actually features Mimikyu, the incredible Pikachu clone on one side looking rather pleased with itself, with a terrified Pikachu on the other, shocked by its counterpart's otherworldly purple energy. The speaker also comes with a color-matched lanyard that has a Poké Ball charm attached to it (it isn't a Pokémon product without the iconic Poké Ball), and is dust and water-resistant for those planning on drowning their Pikachu-themed speakers any time soon. Here's the official description of the speaker from the Pokémon website: This special edition speaker features an adorably mysterious Mimikyu and a lovable (and somewhat concerned-looking) Pikachu. With its color-matched lanyard—complete with a unique Poké Ball charm—you can bring the fun anywhere. The Pokémon × Beats Pill is designed to sound amazing with room-filling sound and deep bass. It features up to 24 hours of battery life and is protected by internal seals, making it dust- and water-resistant. Whether you’re using it at home or on the go, these two Pokémon are sure to amp up your playlist. While these kinds of corporate collaborations can often feel a little soulless, it is evident that a lot of creativity and thought were put into the design of this speaker. Of course, that is naturally reflected in the rather high cost of the speaker, which comes in at $149.99. Should you want to buy one, it'll become available for purchase later today (October 15) via the official Apple Store and Target. However, what is most important about these speakers is the fact that they finally give Mimikyu the respect and attention it deserves. Mimikyu Is The Best Pikachu Clone, Hands Down Pikachu's many redesigns and clones have always stuck relatively close to the original look: the classic cute, round, and affable Pokémon that you'd happily have perched on your shoulder. The exception to that rule is Mimikyu, the somewhat terrifying ghost Pokémon hiding within the doll of a Pikachu-esque creature. It still looks cute, there's no denying that, but its surreal, slightly eerie design coupled with its unique Ghost/Fairy typing makes it a standout Pokémon that feels like a genuine innovation on the iconic Pikachu look. The fact that Mimikyu was picked for this collaboration, that it's so prominent on the design of the speaker, and that Pikachu is recoiling in horror at the sight of it are all, frankly, great touches that do justice to this one-of-a-kind Pokémon in dire need of more love and appreciation. Mimikyu is The Pokémon Company at its most creative; the repurposing of something familiar into something entirely unique to deliver a whole new feel being the blueprint that has defined much of Pokémon's greatest creatures.
