Council officials have said the current system costs around £100,00 each year. This includes collecting the cash, transporting and processing it – despite 90% of transactions currently made digitally. Motorists will still be able to pay using debit or credit cards, contactless payments, the JustPark app or the Buzzpay website at 138 car parks run by Cornwall Council. In a statement, Cabinet member for transport Dan Rogerson outlined reasoon for the new system being implemented. He said: “This is money that could be far better spent on maintaining our car parks and wider highway network.” However, the council recognised that some drivers still prefer to pay with cash. Most read in Motors As such, at least one cash payment machine will remain in every community, with Penzance Harbour retaining three cash-accepting machines, while St Ives Trenwith will keep four.
