Powerscaling has always been a big part of the Avatar fandom, and that’s especially true when it comes to comparing the Avatars themselves. As the strongest characters at any given point in the franchise, the discussion of which Avatar would win in a fight is seemingly never-ending, and the debate of Aang vs. Korra is especially divisive among fans. That being said, with the release of the new Avatar movie, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, the debate over who’s the strongest Avatar might have finally been settled, and surprisingly, it’s not even close. Aang’s New Super Form Officially Makes Him The Strongest Avatar Much of the plot of Avatar Studios’ Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender revolves around the legendary staff of Avatar Sonam, a mystical relic that could harness the entire power of the spirit world to grant the wielder unlimited power. Tagah, the main villain of the film, used the staff to obtain a demonic form that even surpassed Aang in the Avatar State, but soon enough, Aang took the staff to gain his own transformation, making him more powerful than ever, to the point that he easily defeated Tagah. Even before his transformation, Tagah was an incredibly powerful airbender who singlehandedly defeated and killed Team Avatar, and even in the Avatar State, he could still fight Aang on even footing. It’s safe to say that Tagah is one of the strongest villains in the entire Avatar franchise, if not the strongest, so if he got another power boost on top of that, then Aang’s own power boost via Sonam’s staff should, in turn, make him the strongest Avatar in the franchise to date. Aang’s new form making him the strongest Avatar is even seen in its presentation. With him being bathed in ethereal light and given flowing robes, Aang’s new form feels like it’s meant to invoke the image of the Buddha, another reference to the cultural elements of Avatar: The Last Airbender, so Aang using the form could be seen as him obtaining true enlightenment and the power that comes with it. All of that puts Aang’s new power on a scale unlike anything any Avatar has ever showcased, and it’s unlikely to be surpassed any time soon. Will Aang’s New Super Form Ever Appear Again In Avatar? Aang’s new super form in Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender instantly made him the strongest Avatar, but unfortunately, it’s unlikely to appear again. At the end of Avatar Aang, Aang destroyed Sonam’s staff so no one could abuse its power, not even himself, so neither Aang nor any other Avatar will be able to access that level of power again. That could mean the debate about who’s the strongest Avatar isn’t set in stone, but it doesn’t change the fact that Aang was the only one to reach that level of power, so it should still be him by a wide margin. Despite a few shortcomings in its pacing and character writing, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender is a great movie that more than lived up to the hype, and it giving Aang such a powerful new form in such a climactic moment is a big part of that. The new form did a perfect job of selling the film’s incredible action, and hopefully, the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise will find a way to allow another Avatar access to it or a similar form in a future installment.
