James Bond is a global phenomenon that has more or less been on ice since Daniel Craig’s theatrical run ended with Cary Joji Fukunaga’s No Time to Die in 2021, until the franchise was reinvigorated by IO Interactive’s 007 First Light, an original video game that tells Bond’s M16 origin story. Due to the game’s success and its fantastic portrayal of the titular character, fans have now expressed their desire for 007 First Light’s Patrick Gibson to play the next live-action Bond. Meanwhile, the 007 franchise is not simply going back on ice until IO’s sequel or a new Bond movie premieres in theaters. Instead, Bond will be driving his Aston Martin into a wholly separate genre in the near future—not one he is a complete stranger to, of course, but one that fans might not have expected: comics. Via MovieStillsDB As per The Hollywood Reporter, IDW Publishing and Ian Fleming Publications are partnering for a brand-new James Bond comic book series. Particulars are scarce, as even the title is under wraps, apparently, but we do know that its “six-part opening adventure” will be called “Sunbreaker,” and the series’ writer will shockingly be none other than DC Comics legend Grant Morrison (All-Star Superman, Batman: Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth). Morrison likens Bond to such iconic British characters as “King Arthur, Robin Hood, or Sherlock Holmes,” and understands the legacy he’s stepping into with this series. But Morrison is no slouch, either, and it’s equally impressive that such a phenomenal comics writer has been tapped for the untitled Bond series. Everett No artist has been named, and there is no release date scheduled for it yet, which means it isn’t likely to be released until 2027 at the earliest, assuming it would’ve been revealed already via monthly comic book solicitations if it was going to be released sometime this year. Alas, it’s incredibly thrilling to see such a legendary brand paired with such a legendary writer. As for what readers can expect, there will reportedly be “new cars, new gadgets, and a new ultimate villain ripped straight from the headlines.” Moreover, Morrison describes his James Bond as a “killer shark among minnows. Charismatic, ruthless, unstoppable.” Whenever this comic takes place within the James Bond timeline and lore, it’s sure to be an extraordinary journey.
