What initially began as a distribution company evolved into acquiring indie and art-house films with early releases such as The Bling Ring and The Witch under its belt. With major successes such as the Oscar-winning Moonlight and Everything Everywhere All at Once. The Wall Street Journal has reportedly revealed the production budget for A24's adaptation of Elden Ring. The report states that sources have confirmed that the budget is "nearly $200 million." This budget makes Elden Ring the most expensive production for A24, and competes with the likes of Marvel Studios and Sony's Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is reportedly at $200 million. A24's previous record holder was Timothee Chalamet's Marty Supreme, reported to be around $70 million. The biggest and most expensive reported movie budgets include 2022's Jurassic World Dominion at $531 million, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame for over $1 billion combined, and 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $447 million to $536 million reportedly. The live-action adaptation of Elden Ring has Garland writing and directing the latest A24 movie, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters in IMAX on March 3, 2028. The cast includes Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman, Jonathan Pryce, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Emma Laird, and Peter Serafinowicz. Elden Ring began development around 2017 by FromSoftware and director Hidetaka Miyazaki, with Game of Thrones' creator George R.R. Martin being added on to help with the foundational world-building and historical backstory of the Lands Between. The video game was released in 2022 and became a historic hit, surpassing 30 million copies sold worldwide while also winning numerous awards. Not much is known about A24's Elden Ring epic, but set photos and videos of the production in London, England were revealed showing the recreation of some iconic sets. It's currently unclear why and how A24's upcoming adaptation has a budget reportedly so high, but perhaps the use of practical sets is slowly building the movie to eye-watering heights.
