New double decker trains that connect two major cities finally launch – making it the longest route in Europe

A NEW train service has launched in Europe – with double-decker trains. A double-deck train service between Finland and Sweden has launched and is now the longest route of its kind in the world. The route has two services each day and is operated by Finnish state railway VR. The journey heads from Oulu in Finland to Haparanda in Sweden and takes about an hour and 40 minutes. Read more on travel inspo If you are heading to Sweden, you must switch trains at Haparanda Station. As a result of the new connection, travellers can head from Lapland all the way to Portugal‘s Algarve along one route stretching 3,100 miles making it the longest train journey in the world. On part of the track, you can head from Helsinki – the capital of Finland – to Stockholm – the capital of Sweden – in 24 hours. Until now, travellers wanting to head between Finland and Sweden would need to rely on a bus or walking the 1.2mile walk gap between the two.
