New Documentaries-Only Streamer DocuStream Sets Launch Plans (Exclusive)

Logo text A new subscription streaming service devoted to documentaries is set to launch Oct. 15 on Amazon Prime, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. DocuStream will debut with more than 2,000 titles as well as what the platform calls “a substantial collection of exclusive programming.” A subscription costs $4.99 per month. DocuStream was founded by David DiVona (founder of Proven Entertainment) and is backed by Mark Amin (founder and former Chairman and CEO of Trimark Pictures), Jules Haimovitz (former President of Viacom Networks Group and a veteran of Showtime), Marty Pompadur (former Chairman of News Corp Europe) and Shebnem Askin (longtime Sony Pictures Entertainment executive and head of Sony Pictures International Productions). The current DocuStream library includes docs on Hollywood, music, pop culture, true crime, biographies, sports, history, business, UFOs and “the unexplained.” The archive lists films about Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton (Big Hair, Bigger Heart), Anthony Bourdain (A Cook’s Tour) and Elon Musk. “DocuStream’s proposition is deliberately simple: if you’re looking for a documentary, this is where you start,” the company mission states. “Rather than treating nonfiction as one category among dozens, DocuStream puts documentary storytelling at the center of the entire experience, bringing together thousands of real stories across entertainment, culture, crime, history, sports, business and beyond.” Following its Amazon debut, DocuStream is set to roll out on Roku, Tubi and Samsung. “Documentaries have never been more popular, but there still wasn’t one destination where people could go specifically to discover great documentary storytelling across every subject that interests them,” DiVona, the DocuStream CEO, said in a statement. “I saw that white space and thought: why doesn’t this exist? So we built it. DocuStream brings thousands of compelling stories together in one place—from Hollywood, music and pop culture to true crime, history, sports, business and the people shaping our world. We’re creating the destination for people who love documentaries, and we’re just getting started.”
