New Avatar: The Last Airbender Spinoff Officially Recast Aang’s Successor

Published Oct 26, 2026, 2:10 PM EDT Jeff Dodge (he/him), a published author and graduate of Western Washington University, has been a TV news editor for many years and has had the chance to interview multiple reality show stars, including Randy Jackson, Nick Cannon, Heidi Klum, Mel B and John Cena. Fun Fact: he’s been to every single Idol Live! Tour. As the first season of the new series Avatar: Seven Havens unfolds weekly on Paramount+, one of the stars has officially confirmed a major character recast. Seven Havens is the second animated spinoff series in the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise, with the first being The Legend of Korra, which aired from 2012 to 2014. Whereas Avatar centers on Aang, who attempts to end the war ravaging the land, The Legend of Korra takes place 70 years later, with the titular Korra serving as Aang's successor. On The Legend of Korra, Korra was voiced by Janet Varney, but the spinoff Avatar: Seven Havens has a brand-new actor taking over the role. Cia Court confirmed on X that she's the one voicing Korra in the flashback scenes, saying, "I guess the cat monkey's out of the bag! Yes, you heard me as Korra in Avatar Seven Havens!" Then she added, "But is she really as bad as people think she is?" which refers to the fandom's complicated feelings about Korra, with some calling out her hot-headedness and others claiming her flaws are what make her such a great character. I guess the cat monkey's out of the bag! Yes, you heard me as Korra in Avatar Seven Havens! But is she really as bad as people think she is?" The Legend of Korra debuted four years after Avatar: The Last Airbender and aired for four seasons. Varney's co-stars include Seychelle Gabriel, David Faustino, P. J. Byrne, Mindy Sterling, Dee Bradley Baker, Kiernan Shipka and J. K. Simmons. The Legend of Korra earned positive reviews throughout its run and an 88% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to 100% for its predecessor series. When The Legend of Korra ended in 2014, the franchise experienced a lull on the animation front as live-action took over with the release of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender remake a decade later, the final season of which is expected to be released sometime in 2027. However, 2026 has seen Avatar lean back into its animation roots with the feature-length film Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender and now Avatar: Seven Havens, the latter of which premiered on October 9 and currently holds a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Court's fellow voice actors on Seven Havens include Saheli Khan, Aishu Devan, Major Curda, Dee Bradley Baker, Akshay Khanna, Darren Barnet and Sakina Jaffrey. Avatar and Legend of Korra's Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko created Seven Havens and serve as executive producers with Ethan Spaulding. Paramount+ initially picked up the series for two seasons, and now two more seasons have been ordered, as announced at New York Comic Con. It's unknown at this time if Court will voice Korra for additional flashbacks in future seasons.
