I do not write about all offers that are available -- instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same). Terms apply to the offers and benefits listed on this page. The Citi® / AAdvantage BusinessTM World Elite Mastercard® is the single best card for earning airline status. And for a limited time, earn 75,000 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles after spending $5,000 in purchases within the first 5 months of account opening. [See rates and fees] The card’s $99 annual fee is waived for the first year, but even if it weren’t the initial bonus offer would be compelling. (The card’s annual fee will be increasing to $150 for existing cardmembers January 24, 2027. That won’t affect those approved for the card now until card renewal at the conclusion of the first year, because the annual fee is $0 for the first 12 months.) I have the card. I’m keeping it because it allows you to have the same purchases earn credit towards status for two people. For instance, $125,000 in eligible spending on an employee card can produce 125,000 Loyalty Points for the employee and another 125,000 Loyalty Points for the primary cardmember. That’s enough for both to earn Platinum Pro status. On an American Airlines personal card, only one person would earn this status. It’s leverage no other airline’s card offers. Put spending on an employee card, and both that individual and the primary cardholder earns status credit from the same spending. American lists this as valid through December 31, 2028 but that doesn’t mean it won’t be extended. American’s business card earns redeemable miles that go into the company’s AAdvantage Business account, which are also transferable to individual AAdvantage accounts and you can choose where they go later. I have the recently-refreshed Citi Executive card that now awards 10,000 additional Loyalty Points at each of four thresholds: 50,000, 90,000, 165,000 and 240,000 Loyalty Points in a qualifying year. Those thresholds are triggered by Loyalty Points earned across your AAdvantage account, and doesn’t require spending a single dollar on the Executive card itself. I’m a primary Citi Executive card holder. If I get one for my wife, then $105,000 on her business employee card would produce 105,000 Loyalty Points for each of us plus 20,000 in Executive card bonuses apiece. $105,000 spend becomes enough for two Platinum Pro and oneworld emerald statuses (without loyalty points from any other source, including Citi Globe’s ‘flight streak’ bonus). The card earns: 3 miles per dollar on eligible bookings through AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars. 2 miles per dollar in one chosen category: U.S. shipping, office supply stores, or U.S. advertising. And it offers a $100 inflight credit which covers food, beverages and Wi-Fi. Spend $30,000 during your cardmembership year and renew, and you can earn a certificate for a companion’s eligible domestic Main Cabin roundtrip for $99 plus taxes and fees. The card also receives first checked bag free on eligible domestic itineraries and preferred boarding for the primary cardmember and up to four companions on the same reservation, 10% off eligible American Airlines Vacations packages, and no foreign transaction fees.
