New 50,000-sq-foot L3Harris facility to deliver advanced undersea training systems for US Navy

L3Harris Technologies has unveiled a new 50,000-square-foot maritime production facility at ProvPort in Providence, Rhode Island, designed to advance undersea training systems for the U.S. Navy and allied forces. As Senator Sheldon Whitehouse stated, “Rhode Island has long led the maritime defense industry through innovation.” The $6 million facility underscores the growing demand for advanced undersea training and readiness. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I. Undersea warfare technology L3Harris Technologies is a major American aerospace and defense contractor headquartered in Melbourne, Florida. As the company formed in a merger of Harris and L3 in 2019, the alliance sought to combine L3Harris’ strengths in tactical radio and spaceborne systems with L3’s expertise in communication systems, avionics, and electronic warfare. The $6 million investment that L3Harris made in its maritime production facility in Providence is a significant contribution to Rhode Island’s Blue Economy, said Rep. With this expansion, L3Harris strengthens Rhode Island’s leadership in undersea warfare technology and increases the state’s role in the national defense industrial base, according to the news release.
