Published Nov 1, 2026, 4:30 PM EST Merlyn De Souza is a freelance writer and anime enthusiast based in Goa, India, with a Bachelor's in English Literature. When she isn't writing, she can be found exploring various realms of entertainment, including, but not limited to, K-dramas, novels, and even the occasional manhwa. She also enjoys all things creative, like sewing and makeup. Supernatural and fantasy shows like Hotel Del Luna, Alchemy of Souls, and Goblin have arguably always been a hit among K-drama audiences, even though they're quite rare to come by. So naturally, between The East Palace, Spooky in Love, and Phantom Lawyer, K-dramas with a bit of the spook factor have been quite a hit on Netflix this past year. That said, of the few spooky K-drama releases this year, Spooky in Love in particular gathered quite a bit of steam, bewitching both romance and fantasy audiences. Yet, while Phantom Lawyer is potentially in talks for a second season at SBS, Spooky in Love has yet to show any renewal prospects beyond its recently launched webtoon adaptation. Luckily, however, the series may already have a successor on the way in a new webtoon series that's begging for a K-drama adaptation. Webtoon Already Has The Perfect Next Read For Supernatural K-Drama Fanatics While Spooky in Love and Exhuma's new webtoon adaptations continue to draw in readership, Webtoon has launched a new spooky original that could very soon take over the charts. Our Ancestors Are Watching, a supernatural romance series written and illustrated by Moonzzi recently debuted on Webtoon on October 21, 2026, and it's the perfect read for fans of supernatural K-dramas like Spooky in Love, Phantom Lawyer, Hotel del Luna, Sell Your Haunted House, and the like. A little over 20 chapters in, Our Ancestors Are Watching is already off to a decent start, having racked up over 145 thousand views, though the promise the story shows begs for much more attention. The series follows college freshman and art student, Dawon, who, as the title of the series suggests, possesses the curious ability to see people's ancestral spirits. However, this is where the series' creativity takes off as these ancestral spirits don't just take the form of humans but can instead range from everything between animals to a "NewTube" channel, to a pontifical infant. In Our Ancestors Are Watching, a person's ancestral spirit is a window into their soul or their very being. This is why it's so odd when Dawon comes someone without an ancestral spirit — Daham, the president of the occult club who is surrounded by secrets and mysteries and for some reason, is drawn to Dawon. Webtoon's New Supernatural Romance Needs The K-Drama Treatment Overall, despite working off the rather basic trope of its protagonist being able to see the supernatural, Our Ancestors Are Watching manages to deliver quite an intriguing premise with its creative spin on ancestral spirits. The series also features adorable artwork similar in style to popular webtoons like Operation True Love, yet it can still turn up the uncanny factor when it needs to. With its college setting, unique supernatural premise, and classic elements of romance, the series is also primed for a K-drama adaptation. Granted, given that the series is only 21 chapters in at the moment, it will certainly be some time until another adaptation of any kind is a real possibility. That said, K-drama adaptations of webtoons have been on the rise for quite some time. Producers obviously love them because the story's already laid out simply waiting to be adapted for the screen and the existing fan base means going on air with at least some guaranteed viewership. K-drama adaptations of webtoons also continue to be extremely successful, and Webtoon in particular has been at the forefront in this regard, hosting titles that have produced some of the most successful adaptations in recent years, such as True Beauty, Marry My Husband, Manager Kim (Agent Kim Reactivated), Sweet Home, All of Us Are Dead. The upcoming Disney+ K-drama adaptation of The Remarried Empress is also soon expected to join the list, and with every major hit, the chances of promising titles like Our Ancestors Are Watching also getting picked up for adaptations only continue to grow.
