Netflix’s ‘Pride And Prejudice’ Series Trailer Teases Timeless Slow Burn Romance Between Jack Lowden’s Mr. Darcy & Emma Corrin’s Elizabeth Bennett

UPDATED – Oct. 28, 8 a.m. – The full trailer for the Netflix limited series adaptation of Pride and Prejudice has arrived. The series, based on the book by Jane Austen, arrives on the streamer December 3. The clip opens with Emma Corrin’s Elizabeth Bennett and Freya Mavor’s Jane Bennett lying on a rooftop talking of the future. “One day, Jane, I shall be either a governess and a spinster, or a wife and a mother,” Corrin’s Lizzie says. “And then finally, we may talk about something else.” Jane and Elizabeth are two of the five Bennett sisters, parented by “a very animated mother” Mrs. Bennett (Olivia Colman) and father Mr. Bennett (Rufus Sewell), a man of few words. Elizabeth comes upon Mr. Darcy (Jack Lowden) skipping rocks on a lake, which curiously echoes George Mackay’s Mr. Edward Ferrars doing the same thing with Daisy Edgar Jones’ Elinor Dashwood in Georgia Oakley’s new film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, which arrived in theaters earlier this month. Watch on Deadline Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourgh in Netflix’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ Another crossover between the two new adaptation projects is actress Fiona Shaw, who will portray Lady Catherine de Bourgh in the Netflix series. She can be spotted dressed in black in the back of a carriage. “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife,” Colman says later on. Viewers also get glimpses at Rhea Norwood’s Lydia Bennett, Hopey Parish’s Mary Bennett and Hollie Avery’s Mary Bennett, Louis Partridge’s Mr. George Wickham, Jamie Demetriou’s Mr. Collins and more. The clip ends with Colman questioning why Sewell’s Mr. Bennett, who hasn’t spoken a word in the entire trailer, must make everything so dramatic. The six-part series will be a faithful, classic adaptation of the novel, written by Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love, Good Material) and directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper). Alongside Corrin (Nosferatu, Black Mirror) and Lowden (Slow Horses, Benediction), Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown) will be Mrs. Bennet, Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat, Scoop) will be Mr. Bennet, Freya Mavor (Industry, La Dame Dans L’Auto) will be Jane Bennet, Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats, Barbie) will be Mr. Collins and Daryl McCormack (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery; Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) will be Mr. Bingley. When the full cast was revealed during production, writer and executive producer Alderton said: “‘Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr. Darcy.” Other executive producers include Laura Lankester, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, as well as Alderton and Lyn. Corrin is also an executive producer, marking their debut in the role. Austen’s beloved novels have enraptured generations for over 200 years. Her most famous and widely-read novel, Pride and Prejudice has inspired countless writers and filmmakers with its iconic characters, sharp social commentary and timeless love story. In the UK last week, the teaser played on the big screen ahead of Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. Austen’s Sense and Sensibility will get a new adaptation in film form later this year as well from Focus Features starring Daisy Edgar-Jones as Elinor Dashwood, Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne Dashwood, Catríona Balfe as Mrs. Dashwood and more. The 1995 film version of Sense and Sensibility starred Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Hugh Grant and more.
