Expected in 2027, Dealies will bring the Common Side Effects co-creator’s brand of weirdness to a big-box store Image: Green Picture Studios, Netflix Sign in to your Polygon.com account Joe Bennet’s next animated series is shaping up to be a little different from his previous work on Scavengers Reign and Common Side Effects. The upcoming Netflix series Dealies will focus on the strange characters working at a big-box store, with an antique shop across the street providing some competition. In an interview about Common Side Effects, which has a second season on the way, Bennet offered a few new details about his other upcoming project. Dealies is expected to arrive in 2027. “My earlier original shorts are more comedy-based and comedy-focused. I think it's pulling a lot more from that sort of thing,” Bennet said. “It’s an episodic comedy series where a bunch of current characters work together in a big box store.” Steve Hely, who works with Bennet on Common Side Effects but is not involved in Dealies, described the new show as character-driven and rooted in the oddities of everyday life. “It’s very Joe Bennett in that it’s very character-based. Very observed,” Hely said. “Kind of an offbeat kind of character ... exists in our real world, but capturing weirdness.” What else do we know about Dealies? Image: Green Street Pictures Netflix announced Dealies earlier this year as an adult animated series from Bennet and writer Ted Travelstead, who serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers. The show comes from Green Street Pictures, the studio co-founded by Bennet. Its official logline introduces a staff of unusual employees, including “a savant salesman,” “a gentle gladiator,” and “a summoner of the divine,” alongside the unfortunate person who hired them. They're described as masters of commerce who occasionally get around to doing some actual work. Bennet previously co-created Scavengers Reign, the surreal science fiction series that followed humans stranded on an alien planet, and Common Side Effects, an Adult Swim conspiracy comedy about a mushroom with potentially world-changing properties. Both shows showcase his interest in strange worlds and offbeat characters, though Dealies appears to be taking that sensibility into a more recognizable setting. Netflix has yet to announce a specific release date for Dealies, but the series is currently expected sometime in 2027.
