Netflix's Best Yellowstone Replacement Is A Streaming Sensation With 816M Minutes Viewed

Published Aug 30, 2026, 10:01 AM EDT Jeff Dodge (he/him), a published author and graduate of Western Washington University, has been a TV news editor for many years and has had the chance to interview multiple reality show stars, including Randy Jackson, Nick Cannon, Heidi Klum, Mel B and John Cena. Fun Fact: he’s been to every single Idol Live! Tour. Netflix's answer to Taylor Sheridan's hit Western Yellowstone remains a streaming hit ever since its second season came out in July. Sheridan has proven to be a huge boon to Paramount with shows like Yellowstone, 1883, Mayor of Kingstown, 1923, Tulsa King, Lioness, Landman, Marshals, The Madison, and Dutton Ranch. The TV creator's Westerns, in particular, have been very successful. As a result, other networks and streaming services have tried getting in on the action with their own shows in that genre. Netflix, for example, has released Westerns like Little House on the Prairie and Ransom Canyon. That latter series first launched in 2025 and earned a second-season renewal just two months later. Ransom Canyon season 2 premiered on July 23, 2026. Ransom Canyon Is Holding Strong On Streaming Two Months Later It's been just over a month since Ransom Canyon returned to Netflix, and the neo-Western is still performing very well for the streamer and is currently No. 6 on Nielsen's Streaming TV Top 10 chart with 816 million minutes viewed. Above it on the chart are The Big Bang Theory (1,141 million minutes viewed), Bluey (911 million minutes), The Devil Wears Prada 2 (885 million), House of the Dragon (884 million), and The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare (864 million). The rest of the Top 10 consists of SpongeBob SquarePants (793 million minutes viewed), Ride or Die (786 million minutes), The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (777 million), and Grey's Anatomy (737 million). With a cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Minka Kelly, Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Marianly Tejada, Jack Schumacher and Casey W. Johnson, Ransom Canyon centers on an ongoing feud between three families who own competing ranches. Duhamel plays Staten Kirkland, a rancher who is intent on saving his land, despite all the obstacles and heartbreak thrown his way. The show has managed to successfully replicate Sheridan's playbook with Westerns like Yellowstone. H2: Ransom Canyon's Future Is Still A Mystery Netflix Media Center Across both seasons, Ransom Canyon hasn't gotten the best reception from critics, who have given the show an average Rotten Tomatoes score of 49%. The audience score is much higher at 67%, so clearly, most viewers are enjoying the series—and the latest data from Nielsen backs that up. Reviews don't indicate whether a show gets renewed. The streaming numbers this summer indicate it's possible, but Netflix has yet to make an announcement for its Yellowstone replacement. After the first season, it took two months for the streamer to renew the series. Based on that timeline, fans might have to wait another month to find out whether Ransom Canyon season 3 is officially moving forward. Showrunner April Blair previously revealed that the writers' room has opened back up, which could mean good news is on the horizon.
