The biggest action series exclusive to Netflix, at one point, was The Night Agent. It debuted in March 2023, quickly working its way up to Netflix's top list of most-watched shows of all time. In the process, it earned a quick renewal and spurred talk of spinoffs and a potential universe built around its secret spy-like premise. The Night Agent season 4 will still be a relatively big release for Netflix, though viewership has declined from the highs of the show's debut year and there has been a split reaction to some of the creative decisions that occurred in recent years. In many ways, the streamer is still on the hunt for a television action franchise that can go the distance. It may find just that in Elite Force, which is the #1 show in several countries. That includes the Netflix Original's home country of France, as well as Belgium, Brazil, Finland, and Italy. On the whole, including countries where Elite Force is in the Top 10, the French drama is trending in more than 90 countries. It's coming close to the top spot in the U.S, currently sitting at #3. The six-episode actioner dropped worldwide on July 22, unfolding in the aftermath of an attack. A high-ranking officer has to lead a dangerous mission to respond to the unprecedented assault. In the process, he'll also have to confront his past. Led by Tomer Sisley as the high-ranking officer, whose named David Caron, Elite Force is particularly focused on the Groupe d’Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale, which is an elite tactical unit. But the personal element comes in how the series spotlights recruits who have to go through difficult tests to see if they have what it takes. Max (Tristan Zanchi) is among the recruits for the GIGN, made all the more complicated by the fact that he's David's godson and the son of a close friend who was killed in an explosion. It combines those two elements, the personal and professional, weaving past and present, across six brisk episodes. Combined with the dark fantasy K-drama The East Palace, which is about a spirit targeting the royal bloodline, there's a case to be made that some of Netflix's most surprising and consistent success stories have come from outside the U.S. It's still early for Elite Force, albeit early signs point to a new audience favorite.
