Bridgerton is returning, but with a twist. Bridgerton began two decades before Netflix's globally successful series when author Julia Quinn published The Duke and I in 2000 and launched an eight-book romance novel series focusing on each of the Bridgerton siblings. In 2017, Shonda Rhimes signed a $150 million exclusive deal with Netflix, leading to her discovery of Quinn's addictive romance series, which led to bringing in longtime collaborator Chris Van Dusen to bring the Regency era back to life through the streaming giant. One of the most beloved characters from Netflix's adaptation of Bridgerton will get their time in the spotlight. Violet Bridgerton is officially getting a spinoff series focused on her younger years. Executive producer Rhimes will be co-writing and showrunning the romantic drama alongside Nicholas Nardini. The news comes after the first spinoff and Emmy Award-winning series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, which Rhimes also created. The plot for Bridgerton's second spinoff series is largely being kept under wraps, but is said to show the life of young Lady Violet leading to her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton. The news arrives while filming for Bridgerton season 5 remains underway following the announcement that Lady Francesca Stirling (played by Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (played by Masali Baduza) as their love blossoms two years after the death of Francesca's husband, Lord John. Violet Bridgerton (played by Ruth Gemmell in the flagship series) is the matriarch of the Bridgerton family and sadly a widow when viewers are first introduced. A younger version of her character has been shown during the spinoff Queen Charlotte, including her father and mother. It is said that the Violet prequel series will be a limited series much like Queen Charlotte. Even though Queen Charlotte was an original creation, Quinn did release a short novella titled Violet In Bloom giving readers a glimpse into the love affair. However, it's unclear whether Rhimes will base the prequel series on Quinn's novel or take creative liberties, as the other Bridgerton spinoffs have, and bring a new story into the beloved Netflix series. The executive producer, Tom Verica, spoke with Deadline early in 2026 and shared that more Bridgerton characters could be getting the Queen Charlotte treatment by adding, "So we are in talks of some other projects and hopefully, something, some news, something will be coming out at some point. Hopefully." With a young Violet series in the works, perhaps a prequel focused on the other beloved character, Lady Agatha Danbury (played by Adjoa Andoh), could be in Netflix's future. Bridgerton seasons 1 to 4 are available to stream on Netflix, as fans await the release date for season 5.
