From supernatural scares and gory survival thrillers to creature features and classic slashers, the platform hosts a variety of titles you can pick from. And this month's lineup has something for every kind of horror fan. If you're planning your next Halloween movie night, these four films deserve a spot on your watch list. Here's what to know about the movies Netflix is bringing to your screen just in time for Halloween. The Boogeyman The monster is lurking in the shadows of grief Grief makes for powerful starting points in some of the best horror movies I have watched, and The Boogeyman is a great example of that. Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are still grieving their mother when a troubled patient, Lester, visits their father, Will, at home. After he leaves, something seems to have followed him. Sawyer starts seeing it in the dark, but the family is already struggling to talk about what they’ve lost. Based on Stephen King's 1973 short story of the same name, The Boogeyman gives its supernatural threat a connection to the Harpers’ grief. Sadie is trying to protect Sawyer, while her father is so caught up in his own pain that she feels left to handle things herself. The tension comes from both the demonic presence and the family trying to work out their own demons. The story oscillates between the family trying to figure out the mystery behind the creature (The Boogeyman) and surviving it and their grief. The Boogeyman Release Date May 31, 2023 Cast Sophie Thatcher, Vivien Lyra Blair, Chris Messina, David Dastmalchian, Marin Ireland, Madison Hu, Maddie Nichols, Mabel Tyler, Leeann Ross, Shauna Rappold, LisaGay Hamilton, Cristala Carter, Shayla Bagir, Han Soto, Seylan Baxter Runtime 99 minutes Director Rob Savage Writers Mark Heyman, Bryan Woods, Scott Beck Producers Dan Cohen, Dan Levine, Shawn Levy Main Genre Horror Budget $41.9 million Studio(s) 20th Century Distributor(s) 20th Century Executive Producer(s) Adam Kolbrenner, Bryan Woods, Emily Morris, John H. Starke, Robyn Meisinger, Ryan H. Cunningham, Scott Beck The Sixth Sense Not every gift is a blessing Your Halloween watchlist is not complete without a classic horror/mystery addition, and The Sixth Sense is an incredible movie that Netflix is bringing to your streaming parties this month. Nine-year-old Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) is terrified by the dead people he says he can see and talk to. Soon, child psychologist Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) takes on his case. As Malcolm tries to understand Cole, Cole slowly decides whether he can trust him. Soon, Malcolm becomes conflicted about whether the boy is schizophrenic or if his claims about seeing the dead might actually be true. Toni Collette also brings a lot to the story as Cole’s mother, who can tell something is wrong but doesn’t know what her son is facing. M. Night Shyamalan lets their relationship develop alongside the mystery. This is his highest-grossing movie to date, and it was also an incredible commercial success, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of its release year (1999). The movie heads in a different direction than what you might expect initially, so go in blind if you haven't gotten it spoiled for yourself already. The Sixth Sense Release Date August 6, 1999 Cast Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette, Olivia Williams, Donnie Wahlberg, Trevor Morgan, Mischa Barton, Angelica Page, Greg Wood, Peter Anthony Tambakis, Jeffrey Zubernis, Bruce Norris, Glenn Fitzgerald, Lisa Summerour, Firdous Bamji, Samia Shoaib, Hayden Saunier, Janis Dardaris, Neill Hartley, Sarah Ripard, Heidi Fischer, KaDee Strickland, Michael J. Night Shyamalan Producers Barry Mendel, Frank Marshall, Kathleen Kennedy Main Genre Thriller Budget $40 Million Studio(s) Disney Distributor(s) Disney, Dimension Films Happy Death Day 2U Time for a killer comeback Love your Halloween movies to come with a dose of ridiculousness? Netflix has you covered with a killer addition to its library. Happy Death Day 2U, the horror-comedy sequel movie, brings college student Tree Gelbman back after she had already survived a loop in which she kept reliving the day of her own murder. Now the masked killer has returned, and her friends are in danger as well. Tree is still sharp-tongued and determined to work out what’s happening, even as the time loop gets more convoluted and difficult to break out of. The film mixes slasher scenes with comedy and science fiction, so it is a lighter watch than the other movies on this list if you're looking for a break from this terror-filled list. Watch the first Happy Death Day movie if you haven’t seen it; this sequel builds on Tree’s earlier story. This is the movie series I’d pick if your viewing party wants scares along with some laughs. Happy Death Day 2U Release Date February 13, 2019 Cast Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Charles Aitken, Ruby Modine, Suraj Sharma, Rachel Matthews, Blaine Kern III, Phi Vu, Sarah Yarkin, Caleb Spillyards, Kenneth Israel, Steve Zissis, Laura Clifton, Missy Yager, Jason Bayle, Jimmy Gonzales, Tenea Intriago, Tran Tran, Rob Mello, Peter Jaymes Jr., James W. The supernatural horror film follows five friends who meet at a remote cabin and find a mysterious old book they should have left alone. Reading from it releases a corpse-animating demonic entity, and the group is soon fighting for their lives to survive the horrors. Mia (Jane Levy) is there with her brother and friends as she tries to get through a difficult period in her life. This 2013 reimagining of Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead, serves as a standalone sequel in the film franchise, keeps most of the action in the cabin and leans more towards graphic horror. It's a pretty intense watch, so proceed with caution if you're queasy about gore. Evil Dead Release Date April 5, 2013 Cast Shiloh Fernandez, Jane Levy, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, Elizabeth Blackmore, Phoenix Connolly, Jim McLarty, Sian Davis, Stephen Butterworth, Karl Willetts, Randal Wilson, Rupert Degas, Bob Dorian, Ellen Sandweiss, Jack Walley, Bruce Campbell Runtime 91 minutes Director Fede Alvarez Writers Fede Álvarez, Rodo Sayagues Producers Bruce Campbell, Robert Tapert, Sally Campbell, Sam Raimi Main Genre Horror Executive Producer(s) J.R.
