| Senior TV Reporter Published October 8, 2026 2:26pm Updated October 8, 2026 2:58pm The spin-off is currently going by the un-snappy name Untitled Bridgerton Project (Picture: Netflix) The world of Bridgerton is officially expanding further. Netflix has announced a second spin-off of the raunchy period drama is in the works, this time focusing on ‘beloved’ Bridgerton matriarch Lady Violet. The upcoming miniseries is currently going as Untitled Bridgerton Project, but will follow in the footsteps of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. The show will be made in partnership with Shondaland, the production company helmed by executive producer extraordinaire Shonda Rhimes. The official announcement from Netflix states: ‘Similar to the massive global hit Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the series will chronicle the early life of a young Lady Violet and tell the story of her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.’ Rhimes previously hinted that Lady Violet was ripe for a spin-off, saying on Craig Melvin’s podcast earlier this year: ‘I’ve always said that I thought if we were going to do something like that, Violet would be a great person to tell the story about. That’s a possibility.’ The miniseries will focus on Bridgerton matriarch Lady Violet (Picture: Netflix) Lady Violet, played by Ruth Gemmell, finally found romance last season with Lord Anderson (Picture: Netflix) We have seen a snippet of her marriage to Edmund, then played by Rupert Evans, poignantly rendered in the second season when we saw the moment he suddenly died from a bee sting. The moving episode showed Lady Violet grieving for her husband, while Anthony Bridgerton shouldered the burden of looking after their estate. Lady Violet, who is played by Ruth Gemmell, has repeatedly referenced her happy marriage with Edmund when advising her children on their rather chaotic love lives. But during one pivotal scene in the Queen Charlotte spin-off, Lady Violet confided in Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) that she still had needs and was ready to explore a sexual relationship with someone else. The latest fourth season of Bridgerton saw Lady Violet’s garden finally in bloom, as she pursued a new romance with Lord Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis). But we left the pair’s love affair in rocky territory at the end of the season. It has not yet been confirmed whether Rupert Evans will return to play Edmund in the new spin-off, but the show will no doubt cast two younger actors to play the lovers in the early stages of their relationship. A younger Lady Violet did not feature in the first miniseries; it was instead her father, Lord Ledger (Keir Charles), who shares a secret and formative love affair with Lady Danbury. Given that the Lady Violet spin-off doesn’t even have a title yet, it will probably be some wait before it hits our screens. The upcoming fifth season of Bridgerton, which will focus on Francesca’s romance with her sister-in-law Michaela Stirling, also does not yet have a release date.
