Netflix Acquires ‘Canopy’ Creature Feature Spec From Brandon Feldman

Skip to main content Brandon Feldman Courtesy of Verve EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has preemptively acquired Canopy, a horror-thriller creature feature spec from Brandon Feldman, sources tell Deadline. Reps for Netflix declined comment. We’re told this was a six-figure deal; Verve held the auction. Comped to films like Apex, Predator and The Shallows, Canopy follows a botanist searching for a rare medical cure in the uncharted Amazon canopy who must survive a terrifying, undiscovered apex predator after she is offered as a sacrifice by a local village. Juror #2‘s Adam Goodman and Matt Skiena will produce via Dichotomy. They snapped up the script after it began generating buzz when posted to The Black List website. Watch on Deadline Feldman’s romantic-comedy Marriage Material — co-written with Ben Agron, and starring Emma Roberts and Matt Rife — is set up with BuzzFeed Studios and Capstone Pictures. The duo were also hired to write a rom-com for Storyboard Entertainment. Feldman has optioned other scripts to Rebel Way Entertainment, Minds Eye Entertainment, and Belga Studios. He’s represented by Verve, John Dunne at Independent Artists Media, and Mitchel Ostrove at Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
