Nepal flash floods: Farhan Akhtar, Kangana Ranaut and others extend support

Film personalities including Farhan Akhtar, Kangana Ranaut and Sonu Sood voiced support after the Nepal-Tibet border flash floods. Through posts on social media, they shared messages of grief, prayers, support and, in some cases, helpline details for families and individuals in need.The reactions came as the scale of the disaster continued to emerge and rescue and travel disruptions affected several parts of Nepal. The crisis also raised concern for visitors in the country, including Bengali actor Kharaj Mukherjee and his wife Pratibha Mukherjee, who were stranded in Nepal after their return was delayed.At least 475 people have died and nearly 1,500 remain missing on the Nepal and Tibet sides of the border after flash floods, triggered by an ice-rock avalanche following a glacial collapse near the border, tore through central Nepal on Wednesday. The torrent of water, mud and debris swept away homes, vehicles, roads and bridges, and left entire settlements buried.Farhan Akhtar expressed emotional support for the victims and raised awareness about the disaster. He also shared helpline numbers for families and individuals affected by the floods. Bhumi Pednekar shared clips and images from the flood-hit areas on social media, expressed grief and solidarity with the victims, and posted emergency helpline numbers on her Instagram story. Kangana Ranaut wrote on X, "Beyond tragic... everyone is talking about Nepal but no one really knows the magnitude of the tragedy in China. Apparently, it started from China (sic)." She also shared a picture showing Sadhguru, who went live to say that around 80 pilgrims linked to the Isha Foundation were feared missing following a catastrophic flash flood near the Nepal-Tibet border. Posting on his official X handle, he promised food, shelter and all possible assistance, and wrote, "Nepal, you are not alone. We are coming with food, shelter, and the strength to help you rebuild (sic)." Manisha Koirala also shared images and videos of the floods on her Instagram story, paid tribute to those who lost their lives and asked her followers to pray for her homeland.Sanjay Dutt shared an Instagram story offering his thoughts, prayers and support for everyone whose lives had been affected by the flash floods in Nepal. In his social media story, the Dhurandhar actor said, "I stand with you in this difficult time and will always be there to support you in whatever way I can (sic)."Meanwhile, Bengali actor Kharaj Mukherjee and his wife Pratibha Mukherjee had travelled to Nepal for a shoot and were unable to return home amid the crisis. As concern grew over their safety, their son Tamaghna Mukherjee shared a video on Instagram saying he had spoken to them on the morning of August 27 and that both were out of danger. "My father's name is Kharaj Mukherjee and my mother's name is Pratibha Mukherjee. Both of them had gone to Nepal for a shoot. I have been receiving a lot of calls from their well-wishers and from the media," he said.Tamaghna said his parents had travelled to Pokhara for the shoot, while the area where the tragedy occurred was some distance away from them. However, heavy rain in Pokhara affected their filming schedule and disrupted their plans to fly back.According to PTI, Kharaj Mukherjee and his wife had travelled to Nepal on August 20 as part of a production team for a Bangladeshi film and were accompanied by family and friends.The floods have disrupted travel and communication in Nepal and also raised concerns about Indian tourists and other visitors in the country.
